MARKETING MAYHEM + MORE
“It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation.” – Herman Melville
Since I have many new subscribers to this newsletter, I thought I’d restate its purpose.
I’ve been in the automotive marketing and advertising business for about 30 years. Yes, that could sound stale or outdated, I however, have always pioneered new roads.
Always.
About 30% of my time is finding new ideas and testing them and bouncing them against the bottom line. Will it sell me a vehicle? Will it sell me a lot of vehicles?
Here is a newsletter that highlights some of the resources I have to help me think different. It stood out as something to note, something to copy, something inspirational. And then there is more (+ MORE) Just a little somethin somethin you might like.
So here is this week’s compilation.

‘A gold rush moment’: Apple’s Reality Pro revives marketers’ AR ambitions
In classic “Apple phenomenon” style, the tech giant has managed to whip marketers into a frenzy over what seems to be an experimental product with a jaw-dropping price tag of $3,500. They know the technology is far too nascent and its limitations too apparent to get carried away, but they are captivated by its potential.
“Marketers are going to see the headset as a gold rush moment,” said former Apple executive Matt Robison, who now runs his own marketing agency Robotproof.
Ok, that’s a bit of a hyperbole, but it’s also true. There were lots of marketers who watched the reveal of the Vision Pro and saw a glimpse of what the future could look like for marketing.
From The Daily Carnage:
86% of consumers trust UGC over influencer marketing
AF: This is not surprising to me and I know the study was done by a company that has a UGC (user generated content) platform but interesting nonetheless. Are you running a business and don’t leverage your current fan base to the best of your or their ability?
Did you know this?
Here is some creative stuff. Love it:

Even for the seasoned copywriter, spelling is hard.
Jimmy Dean and Ogilvy Chicago are celebrating this week’s Scripps National Spelling Bee in a fun way—with billboards in the Washington, D.C., area that feature intentional misspellings. In a kind of scavenger hunt, the company is rewarding those who correctly identify the mistakes with the chance to win free breakfast and a donation to support child literacy.

If you’re a bride on a budget, you can bless your f*ing Chili’s for being able to feed your entire wedding party for less than $2,000.
A bride in Georgia did just that last month, revealing on TikTok how she ordered a Chili’s party platter for her big day—and ended up paying just $1,950 for 99 guests (that’s less than $20 per guest). Just days later, Chili’s—with help from agency Mischief—has announced a contest where the first three couples to propose at at a Chili’s restaurant will get their wedding fully catered for free by the chain.

Are you a fan of eggs? I just found this.
I’m living my best life. And here’s a playlist I just made last night to celebrate that and lake life this summer. I can’t get enough of Goose! I know, I’m late to the game.
Father’s Day is coming up. I lost my dad 18 years ago. I was very close to him. I was the first born and my dad was my hero. Correction IS my hero. He was the most charismatic, energetic and witty person I knew. He loved good music, entertaining friends, golf and so much more. He worked for GM for 34 years in many cool roles across the country. Like hosting all of Buick’s incentive trips (all of them!) for dealers all over the world. I told you he was cool. His father worked for GM for 35 years. He was the head of Buick Service at the height of his career. I would get my dad something from here if he were still alive.
Lastly, if you want a little peak at how witty he was, check this out. I can hear him telling this story!
OK, talk to you later.
